Vaarwel Amsterdam

Farewell Amsterdam breakfast. Poffertjes across from the floating flower market after doing a little last minute souvenir shopping. Simply delightful.

 

Turning 30 in Holland

What can I say? There is nothing better than a big adventure for birthdays and my 30th was perfect! We started the day with Zaanse Schans, a collection of working mills and museums that show what historical Dutch life was like.

 

 

Next we visited Volendam, a small fishing town in which I had my first poffertjes in Holland. We toured a cheese factory and had delish samples.

 

 

 

 

 

Our next stop was Marken, where we watched a wooden shoe making demonstration. And of course, had to model the finest wooden footwear.  

 

Then we hopped on our next tour to Delft and The Hague. The Hague was not particularly exciting, but I am pleased to have seen it. Delft, however, was my absolute most favorite place of the entire trip. The Delft Blue factory was quaint, with a beautiful courtyard and surprisingly small firing room.
 

 

 

The central square in Delft was gorgeous, historic, and just so peaceful. Ancient churches tower over each end of the square and shops and restaurants line the sides. Mike and I had bites of red pepper cheese on teeny crunchy toast slices as we relaxed in the square. Best. Moment. Ever.

 

We bussed back into Amsterdam, had Indonesian food, and then debated visiting the Icebar right next to our hotel. We were on the fence, but thankfully the stars aligned---perhaps for my bday? ;) ---and we ended up getting in early, having three very delightful drinks, and ending my bday night on the happiest, most relaxed note.

 

Bike Tour & Rijksmuseum

 Our first full day in Amsterdam and we set out early! Nothing was open, so we snacked on muffins and juice at Sbux. After a long walk down to Dam Square, we stopped for breakfast and had one of my favorite meals there--bacon pancake! Then a bike ride in the rain, followed by a jaunty tour through Rijksmuseum.

 

 

 

Walking Amsterdam

 Out walking in Amsterdam on our first day there, I had to capture this. We had been dropped off in a very random spot because the bus stopped somewhere entirely different than we'd been told. Walking over many canals and through endless side streets, this felt like Amsterdam.

Red Sox at Fenway

 I've been wanting to see a Red Sox game since I've been driving to GC literally right next to Fenway all the time lately. When Bandmates found tickets for great seats for a steal, we said absolutely! It was fun and at a historic park and I even got a hot cocoa in a reusable travel mug. Quite a nice time.

 Impromptu shopping trip and I found this great shirt! Fell in love with the font so I adopted it.

 

I Win Cooking

 Eggs in a basket, toads in a hole or, as I usually accidentally call them, holes in a basket, have been challenging for me to make because I generally suck at cooking. However, with practice, I made these, so clearly I win at cooking! Look at that! Perfection!
